Facebook Annoyances

Monday, September 28th, 2009

Is anyone else annoyed by the constant badgering of Facebook application notifications? I could not care less about farms, casinos, mafia, or how people score on quizzes. I mean it’s nice that people enjoy these applications, but do they honestly think that I want to be notified each time they take a quiz or their llama poops?

Another thing: what’s up with Facebook chat? Do people just wait by their computer all day waiting for one of their friends to log on so they can chat? I have turned off my Facebook chat because I got tired of simply logging on to check my messages and was instead met with a chat attack. If I ignore your chat, don’t take it personal, and don’t claim I don’t like you. My world doesn’t revolve around you and your world shouldn’t revolve around me.

Now…let’s all get back to Facebook and enjoy our time there. Just don’t expect me to respond to all your crap.

Amazing Reality Show

Monday, September 28th, 2009

I enjoy watching the Amazing Race, which happens to be on tonight. The teams really amaze me on their tenacity and competitive spirit, or at least their belief that they are competitive. I don’t think I could EVER have the spirit to compete in such a race, although it would be fun to try!!

Obama To Congress: Do it, or your fired in 2010.

Wednesday, September 9th, 2009

There was a lot hanging on Obama’s speech to congress tonight. Some said it was going to be a defining moment in his presidency. He hit a home run. His speech was full of the reality that I’m not used to hearing. But Obama is apparently bright enough to realize that pretty talk and hope filled fluff speeches will only get you so far. He laid out several options and a hand full of compromises. He admitted to the troubled areas of his plan, but laid out clear paths to finding solutions. I really don’t think he could have done a better job. There are still parts of his ideology that I don’t think fit into human nature. Like you should never be sick in such a way that you go broke, “not in America”. Realistically, if you get sick enough, it will always leave you in a bad position financially, no matter how great your insurance is. But all said and done. Obama did a great job of leaving the full responsibility of making it happen in the hands of the senate and house.  Toward the end he hinted at “what will happen” if they don’t get this done. The most bipartisan thing about this bill will be the fact that republican or democrat, both will loose their job’s next year of they get in the way of a good piece of legislation. I’m a conservative republican, and I keep saying to my self, “I like this guy”. Will I vote for him in 1212… doubtful. But at least for now, I can say that he has surprised me on the way he is carrying out his promises during the campaign. Now to wait and see what bill get’s produced and what he has to say about the final product and how he will carry it out.

Oh and one more thing…

Dear state of South Carolina,

Please write your congressman, Joe Wilson and ask him to shut up. There is a time to debate and present facts on issues, but just yelling out “Liar” during a presidential address, is low class and doesn’t do well at representing your state to the rest of the nation. I would love to have Congressman Joe Wilson clearly and articulately explain his disagreement, and no doubt he will get the chance over the coming weeks, but I doubt he will have any evidence that warrants his outburst.

Is NASA dying a slow death?

Tuesday, September 8th, 2009

Obama enlisted an excelent team to reseach the future of NASA and manned space flight, and the majority of these guys were astraunates and or people with a great interest in manned missions. They came back recently with a recommendation to the President to put an end to the “Return to the moon” plan. Read more on this NPR report. Is this the beginning of the end of NASA. At some point the great technolical advances that we have always argued to defend the space program have just stopped spewing out of NASA. We are left in a position to ask the question of what is it worth, besides pride, to send poeple to the moon or anywhere esle for that matter. I’m not really sure how to feel about this. I logically agree, but at the same time, I do long for the undiscovered and can’t stand the idea of giving up on something because it was “hard” or “expensive”.

How dare he try to inspire our young people.

Tuesday, September 8th, 2009

There has been a lot of unnecessary contraversy over the President’s address to K-12 students today, especially in ulta conservitive states where the President didn’t recieve much support during the election. Honestly, I didn’t vote for him, and I don’t think he’s shaping up to be a good President, but he is still the President. A man who sits in the highest held office in the world. The commander of the largest and most advanced fighting force in the world. And when he tells kids to stay in school and do their best, they aught to be paying attention. He may not have the much potential for getting things done on capital hill, but he is and always has been a great speaker and motivational inspiration to others. I thought his speech today was right on target and offered a lot of down to earth advice for our future generation. Some have stated that this is just him playing up his hollywood side. But this was the time in technology to attempt a speech like this to a nation wide audience of students, and even if you don’t like Obama, you should understand that young people do like him. He speaks their language and uses their technology. If anyone can get through to troubled kids and make an impact, it would be someone like Obama. And good for him, for not ending the speech with “Vote for me in 2012!”

This is a powerful short film that I think every yuppy with a phone and a car should be forced to watch before getting behind the wheel. This was created by the Gwent Police of south Wales, UK.
