I have always thought that the story of Saul and David would make a great movie. But I never would have considered a remake of the story in modern times. There are a lot of benefits to giving an older story a modern twist. Not only for the film and prop crew, but also for the sake of not dealing with the exact story. I remember when NBC butchered the story of Noah and the flood with a mini series that took some major liberties with the story that left a bad taste in my mouth. It wasn’t the freedom of interpretation that offended me, it was the lack of appreciation of original story. Kings adds a new perspective to the storytelling. They are attempting to ask the question ‘how would that story play-out today?’ It comes off with a lot less heresy. We are only a few episodes into the season, so it could go down hill, but it started with a bang and has kept me enthralled thus far. If it can keep up the pace, it is on it’s way to my top 10 list.
